Happy Mother's Day

Since I don’t really drink, I shall sit here and raise my coffee cup now in a toast to my wonderful mother. She’s an angel to me and one of my best friends. I thank God for her every single day and am so blessed and humbled to have her as my mommy. She’s beautiful on the inside and out. She is ever loving and compassionate. She’s like my number one fan as she’s always supportive of whatever venture I am heading into. She’s also there to listen to me ramble on endlessly about various topics. I can go to her about anything. It really goes beyond words just how thankful I am for having the close relationship I do with her.

I’m blessed to have so many memories to cherish and still be in a spot where I continue to make memories with her. One of my favorite memories from my childhood is singing ‘Lilies of the Valley’ with my mom. Another from childhood was her reading ‘Charlotte’s Web’ to me, in which she always did voices for the various characters in the book. In my teen years I was mildly obsessed with the Spice Girls and I give her a lot of credit for hearing the music over and over again. Listening to me ramble on with excitement and gaze over the scrapbook I made. I even remember very clearly the day I was sulking around her, because (insert sarcastic gasp here) she and my dad wouldn’t let me – at age fourteen – go to a Marilyn Manson concert. To cure my blues she did half her face in one set of colors with makeup and the other half in another. She then gave me a little bit of her own rendition of ‘The Beautiful People’. A memory I will continue to cherish for as long as I live.

My mom has always been really quite giving to her children as well. I remember one year when the budget was very tight for our family and she sold her complete Denim Days figurine collection so we could have Christmas. If there was something we needed she often did everything she could to get it for us. To this day, though my brothers and I are all adults now, she would still do anything she possibly could for us. Mom seems to always find a way to help us if we are in need, as well as always there to just purely love us unconditionally. Plus I swear she always has the most obscure things, like when one of my brothers wanted to learn calligraphy years ago and she randomly had already a kit to get started. It’s kind of a saying in the family that “mom has everything”.

Unfortunately this year for Mother’s Day I am unable to see her. Hug her and shower her with spoils and love. Granted, I’ll be seeing her later in the month – but in the meantime I am definitely bummed that I can’t be there to cook her dinner and shower her with love. I hope she knows that despite my inability to be there, that I love her as much as I do. That I am so thankful for her in every way and so blessed that she is in my life.

Mom if you read this (and I’m sure you will), thank you so much for everything you do for me and my brothers. Thank you for your continuous love, compassion and kindness. Thank you for the lessons you have taught me and continue to teach. You are so special to me and I am so very thankful for you. I am so proud to call you my mommy and so humbled and blessed to be one of your babies. I love you, I miss you and I cannot wait to see you!

--XOXO, Jane

p.s. Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful mommies out there!
